Stocks With the Highest Return on Equity (ROE) (2026)

US companies earning the most profit per dollar of shareholder equity — ranked from filed statements, with negative- and negligible-equity distortions removed. 376 companies qualify today — top 25 below, recomputed nightly from SEC filings.

Return on equity measures how much profit a company wrings from each dollar of shareholder capital, and consistently high ROE is a hallmark of a high-quality, capital-efficient business. The catch is that ROE explodes to meaningless numbers when equity is tiny or negative — typically after years of buybacks or losses — so a raw "highest ROE" list is usually topped by accounting artifacts. This screen removes them: it caps ROE at a sane ceiling, requires positive free cash flow and at least 8 profitable years of the last 10, and ranks the genuine high-return operators that remain. ROE is inflated by leverage, so read it next to the margin and growth columns rather than on its own.
